Children of Mentally Ill Parents Support Group 1 month, 3 weeks agoMy mom is mentally ill. I’ve thought this for at least 10 years now. I thought she’d “become” mentally ill. But I’m coming to believe she just “is” and always has been mentally ill. I’m in my 40s and I’m remembering my childhood totally differently now that I am seeing things for what they are (were). Coming out of denial is very…[Read more]

Children of Mentally Ill Parents Support Group 2 months, 3 weeks agoI am lucky. I had a father who is normal. And what I mean by normal is that although he’s a heart patient, his mind functions within the realm of logic and reason. My mother, however, is mentally ill.
I was raised middle-middle class, with two college educated parents. My father, for many years, chalked my mother’s behavior up to being…[Read more]

Children of Mentally Ill Parents Support Group 3 months agoI found this group, through this website earlier today; I thought I would join. I am 30 years old. My mother was diagnosed with schizo-affective disorder; growing up it was difficult having an ill parent. I have such a difficulty with how I was treated by my mother, I don’t see her that much now. I lived with my mother until I got married at age…[Read more]

Children of Mentally Ill Parents Support Group 4 months, 1 week agoHi guys. Im writing this at 2.30am after spending some time trying to figure out how to get in
It feels really strange.. and curiously wonderful.. to feel part of a group of people who have shared my experiences. My mother suffered with paranoid delusions and manic behaviour through my childhood. I still have very little real relationship…[Read more]-
Hi Susan, Welcome to the group and thank you for posting. I hope that we can really start to get this support group up and running well, as there are so many people out there who are in this horrible, rocky boat. Remember that you’re not alone and we’re here to help and support one another. I look forward to getting to know you
. Take care.-
Thankyou. It is lovely to be here. I pondered on the rocky boat analagy. I feel I have adopted huge inner control in contrast to the outside chaos. A rather sad floating boat looking a people laughing and socialising on the beach fits better for me. They say you dont miss what you havent had. Hmm. X

More than glad to have you Susan
. You’re right, they do say that you don’t miss what you haven’t had, but seeing someone else have something that you wish you had does make you really mad from time to time. I am really glad to hear that you’re adopted a huge inner control in contrast to the outer chaos. You sound like an incredibly strong…[Read more]
